Sharing and Export

An audit report can be shared three ways: an in-app link for people on your team, a public link for anyone, and a PDF download. This page covers each and the one thing that surprises people — what happens when a PDF takes a while to render.

  • You need a completed audit report open. See Run an Audit.
  • Enabling public sharing is available to members who can act on the project; if your org is in a read-only billing state, mutating actions are blocked.

Use Copy link to copy a link to the report scoped to your project. This is the link to send to people who are already signed in to your org — it opens the report inside the app, in context. Use it for anyone on your team who has access to the project. It does not make the report public.

Use Share to create a link that anyone can open, signed in or not.

If public sharing isn’t on yet, Apptonomy shows a “Enable Public Sharing?” dialog explaining that this creates a public link anyone can view.

Click Enable Sharing. Apptonomy turns on public access and opens the shared report in a new tab. The public URL takes the form …/app/share/audit/<audit id>, and it renders without a login wall.

Public sharing is a toggle. You can disable sharing at any time — once it’s off, the public link stops resolving. Only reports with sharing explicitly enabled are reachable publicly.

Use PDF to download the report as a file — for attaching to a deck, emailing outside the app, or keeping a point-in-time record.

Apptonomy renders the PDF on demand. Most exports are ready within a few seconds and download straight to your machine. If a report is large enough that rendering takes longer than about a minute, Apptonomy stops making you wait: you’ll see a message that the PDF is taking longer than usual and it will be emailed to you when ready. You can close the report and go do something else — the finished PDF arrives by email. Nothing is lost by waiting; the export continues on the server.

  • Copy link / Share — paste the copied link into a new tab. The in-app link should open the report in the app; the public link should open it in a new tab with no login required.
  • PDF — the file downloads to your machine, or (for a slow render) you get the “we’ll email it to you” message and the PDF later arrives in your inbox.

Public links only resolve while sharing is enabled for that report. If someone reports a broken public link, open the report and check that Share is on — if it was disabled, re-enable it to make the link resolve again.

My PDF never downloaded

If the render ran long, the download is replaced by an emailed copy — check the inbox for the account that requested it. If nothing arrives, open the report and click PDF again to re-request the render.
