Edit Store Text

The Store Text editor is where you write the text of your listing — title, subtitle, description, and the store-specific fields. Each field is its own tab, and everything you save lands in the draft for the store you’re editing, never on the live listing.

  • Your project needs a linked store or imported store text so there’s a listing to edit. See App Store linking or Google Play linking.
  • Editing the Keyword Field or Promo Text requires an App Store Connect link — both are private App Store fields that can’t be read without it.
  • Switch stores with the store switcher at the top of the project; you edit one store’s draft at a time.

In the left sidebar under Listing Edit & Publish, expand Asset Editor and choose Store Text. The page header reads EDIT: Store Text. A row of tabs lets you move between fields.

The available fields differ by store:

Field (tab)App StoreGoogle PlayCharacter limit
App TitleYesYes30
SubtitleYes (Subtitle)Yes (Short Description)30 App Store / 80 Google Play
DescriptionYesYes4000
Keyword FieldYes100
What’s NewYes4000
Promo TextYes170

Select its tab (for example Description). Each field page has two stacked cards: Live on {store} at the top (read-only, what’s currently published) and Next Version below it (your editable draft).

Type into the Next Version box. A character usage bar tracks how close you are to the limit. If it helps to start from what’s live, click Copy to editor on the Live card to pull the published value into your draft.

  • Over the limit — if you exceed the field’s character cap, the box turns red and shows “Too long: N characters over the {limit}-character limit.” You can’t save until you trim it.
  • Invalid characters (App Store) — the App Store rejects certain symbols. If you paste one, Apptonomy flags it as an invalid character. Click Allowed Symbols to see exactly which characters App Store Connect permits.

Click Save. If your project has additional target languages, the button reads Save & Retranslate — saving the source text also refreshes the translations for that field. A status badge next to Next Version confirms Saving… then Saved. To throw away unsaved edits, click Discard Changes.

When your draft differs from the live listing, a diff appears beneath the editor so you can see exactly what changed.

The status badge shows Saved, the diff reflects your new wording, and the value persists when you switch tabs and come back. Your change lives in the draft — it does not reach the store until you publish.

Save stays disabled when there’s nothing to commit or the draft breaks a rule. Check for: no changes since the last save; a Too long error; or an invalid-character flag (App Store). Fix the flagged issue and Save re-enables.

Section titled “The Keyword Field or Promo Text is empty and asks me to link App Store Connect”

Both are App-Store-only fields that Apple doesn’t expose publicly — Apptonomy can only read and write them through an App Store Connect link. Click Link App Store Connect on the Live card and connect the store, then the field becomes editable. These fields don’t exist on Google Play at all.

My subtitle limit looks different than I expected

Section titled “My subtitle limit looks different than I expected”

That’s by design. App Store Subtitle is capped at 30 characters; the Google Play Short Description (shown on the same tab) allows 80. The limit shown always matches the store you’re currently editing.
