Fonts & Text Sizing

When you preview or export a non-primary language, Apptonomy Bridge sets the font and alignment of each bound text layer so the script renders correctly. This page describes that behavior. For where fonts fit into overall file setup, see Figma File Structure.

For any language other than your project’s primary language, the plugin sets each bound text layer’s font to the Noto font associated with that locale, defaulting to Noto Sans when the locale has no specific Noto font. The Noto family covers the scripts used across the App Store and Google Play locales, so text in Japanese, Arabic, Hindi, or Cyrillic renders instead of showing missing-glyph boxes.

If the exact font and weight can’t be loaded, the plugin falls back in order: it tries the target font at Regular weight, then falls back to Noto Sans at the requested weight. This keeps a screen renderable even when a specific weight isn’t available.

In your primary language the plugin leaves fonts as you designed them. Per-locale substitution only applies when you switch to a translated locale.

For right-to-left locales, the plugin sets bound text layers to right alignment; for left-to-right locales it sets left alignment. Layers you’ve explicitly set to center are left centered in every locale. Alignment is applied automatically whenever you preview or export a locale.

The plugin does not shrink or grow your text to fit — the font size you set in Figma is what renders. Because translations vary in length, size and position your text boxes with room to spare so longer strings don’t clip or overflow. See Text Boxes.
