Managing Competitors
Tracked competitors are the apps Apptonomy watches for you. Once an app is on your competitor list, Apptonomy snapshots its listing every day and flags any changes. This page covers adding and removing competitors and controlling the emails they generate.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Competitor tracking requires a plan that includes it. If you’re over your plan’s competitor limit, adding another one opens an upgrade prompt instead of adding it — see Plans & Entitlements.
- Your project needs a store app configured, and you add competitors from the store you’re currently viewing. Switch the App Store / Google Play selector first if you want to add a competitor on the other store.
- Open Market → Competitors for your project.
Add a competitor
Section titled “Add a competitor”1. Open the add dialog
Section titled “1. Open the add dialog”Click Add Competitor. On an empty list the button sits in the empty state; once you have competitors it’s at the bottom of the table.
2. Search for the app
Section titled “2. Search for the app”Type the app’s name in the Search for an app by name field. Results are filtered to the store you’re currently viewing, so you can’t accidentally add a Google Play app while looking at the App Store side.
3. Confirm the preview
Section titled “3. Confirm the preview”Select a result. Apptonomy looks up the listing and shows a preview card with the app’s icon, name, and publisher. If you picked the wrong app, click New search to start over.
4. Add it
Section titled “4. Add it”Click Add Competitor. The app joins your list and its first daily snapshot — the “initial pull” — is taken on the next snapshot run.
Mute or unmute notifications
Section titled “Mute or unmute notifications”Each row has a bell icon. This controls email notifications for that competitor — it does not turn tracking on or off. Every app on the list is snapshotted daily regardless.
- Bell (default): you’ll be emailed when this competitor’s listing changes.
- Bell with a slash (amber): muted. Apptonomy still records the competitor’s changes and shows them in-app; it just won’t email you about them.
Click the bell to toggle. The setting is per person, so muting a competitor only affects your own emails.
Remove a competitor
Section titled “Remove a competitor”Click the trash icon on the competitor’s row, then confirm in the Remove Competitor dialog. Removal can’t be undone — you’d have to add the app again to resume tracking it, and its history starts fresh from a new initial pull.
Verify it worked
Section titled “Verify it worked”A newly added competitor appears in the table immediately and shows up on the Activity timeline with an initial-pull marker once its first snapshot lands.
Troubleshooting

Section titled “The app I searched for isn’t showing up”Search results are limited to the store you’re currently viewing. If you expect an App Store app but see nothing, confirm the App Store / Google Play selector is set to the right store, then search again.
Clicking Add Competitor opened an upgrade prompt
Section titled “Clicking Add Competitor opened an upgrade prompt”You’ve reached your plan’s competitor limit. Remove a competitor you no longer need, or upgrade — see Plans & Entitlements.
I’m still getting emails about a competitor I don’t care about
Section titled “I’m still getting emails about a competitor I don’t care about”Mute that competitor with the bell icon on its row. If you want to stop or reshape competitor emails entirely, adjust your email preferences.
